GPM Distributes Aid To Rohingyas In Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Global Peace Malaysia (GPM) distributed humanitarian aid amounting to RM250,000 this week to the ethnic Rohingya minority who are experiencing a humanitarian crisis in Arakan, Myanmar.

The mission was led by GPM president Ahmad Azam Abdul Rahman who distributed the donations collected through the Ramadan Iftar Fund campaign, with the cooperation of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM).

Karim Erdogan, the representative of a German non-governmental organisation, Islamiche Gemeinschaft Mill Gorus, also participated in the mission, said the statement issued by GPM today.

The donations were channeled through a network of local welfare organisations recognised by the Myanmar government.

GPM also implemented community development programmes for the Rohingya community in Malaysia which included the establishment of a Rohingya Education Centre to help the children of the refugees, said the statement.
